Lava rock will fill more than twice the area compared to fireglass
10 lbs fills an area 18"  x 18" x 1" depth
20 lbs fills an area  24" x 24" x  1" depth
10 lbs lava rock = 2 gallons
10 lbs fire glass = 3/4 gallon


Warning - For your safety
*** Wet lava rock can explode when heated.  Allow fire pit to burn at least 45 minutes or until lava rock is dry before coming within 15 feet of fire during start up.  Consider covering fire pit to keep lava rock dry to prevent this occurrence or use lava rock 3" in diameter or larger.
*** Liquid Propane (LP) gas rings and burners:  Do not install more than 1/4" small lava rock above burner holes.  Do not block burner holes
